John and I first met Didi when she was living in Patrick's flat in Islington in, I guess, the early 80s. We were almost "twins", she was one day younger and we became good friends very quickly. She was always such fun and went at life with such enthusiasm. Always ready to welcome friends with a meal and a bottle of wine at each of her homes. From Islington to Barons Court, then Fulham, then Dolphin Square. Then in 1999 we moved to Suffolk and managed to keep in touch for a while but, sadly and with much regret, lost touch in the last few years. When we first went to stay in Spain, she was our first visitor arriving soon after we did (with Harvey in tow). She helped us find our way around the food shops and recipes with Spanish as bad as ours. It was then I first picked up the term BVM, which I still use, from her comments on a local procession. When we got married in 1994, we didn't want a fuss and told no-one but we did need two witnesses and Didi was our first thought. She insisted that she would be John's best man and kept us in fits of laughter all the time. She was a good and generous friend to John and me, both separately and together and there has been a gap in my life since we lost touch. I wish I could have seen or spoken to her one more time. I loved her very much.
